Hurricane the storm is projected to strengthen into a uncommon category five cyclone as it veers in the direction of Jamaica, delivering deadly sudden floods and rock falls.

The cyclone, which registered winds of up to 195 km/h as of 0600 Greenwich Mean Time, is now shifting toward the northwest in the Caribbean Sea and is projected to make landfall by early next week, according to weather experts.

Advisories of blackouts and disruption to utilities have been issued as the hurricane generates up to thirty inches of rainfall and coastal flooding as high as 4m above normal levels. "Take cover without delay," inhabitants have been told.

This hurricane is the 13th hurricane in the ongoing Atlantic storm period, which typically ends in the eleventh month.

Most Intense Storm Danger

A category five cyclone is the strongest type, with sustained winds of at least 157mph.

While this storm is projected to reduce in intensity to a Category 4 storm before making landfall on Jamaica, experts said there was "almost no noticeable change in the total effects" upon making contact with land, and that the storm will be "at least that intensity" when it impacts the island.

With tropical storm-strength gusts and precipitation anticipated well in advance ahead of it moves across the island's interior - perhaps encompassing the city of Kingston - warnings state that "readiness efforts must be accelerated".

"An extended timeframe of destructive gusts and heavy rainfall are underway and will cause catastrophic and life-threatening flash flooding and multiple landslides," advised climate experts.

Jamaican Prime Minister the official said: "I realize that there are countless citizens who are concerned, who are deeply troubled, and appropriately: concern is justified.

"But the most effective method to manage worry and any apprehension and concern is to remain prepared."

Inhabitants are being told to secure their homes with sandbags and plywood sheets, and to stock up on essentials.

Alerts are also ongoing for parts of the neighboring country such as the main city, Port au Prince, the neighboring country and the eastern part of Cuba, where the hurricane is anticipated to bring similar effects by the midweek period.

Mudslides presently generated by the cyclone have resulted in two fatalities in Haiti, according to local authorities.

Projected Trajectory

The hurricane is projected to cross Cuba by midweek before traveling via the Greater Antilles and emerging into the Atlantic Ocean.

By the time it reaches Cuba, it is predicted to have diminished to a third-level storm.
