Christantus Uche Ignites Comfortable Crystal Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Despite entering their maiden continental adventure, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Without star players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a commanding win that virtually guarantees them a spot in the Conference League playoffs.
A further three points in their next fixture against Finland's KuPS should be sufficient to seal direct entry to the knockout stages, particularly following a previous setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Moment
This occasion offered a chance for some of Palace's lesser-used players to impress. Christantus Uche, making only his second start since joining on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a well-taken finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a another, scoring for the second consecutive succession.
The Shelbourne team that had concluded their league season proved outmatched against a mostly second-string Palace lineup. The Londoners were further depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with leg problems.
Dominance Asserted from the Outset
In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly established dominance. A slick passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to set up Uche for a straightforward finish.
Youngster Adam Wharton came close minutes later, driving a long-range shot over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after racing into the box, but the official dismissed the protests.
Ex-Arsenal striker did not have wait long to get his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's effort had struck the post.
The home side were hanging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to avoid a booking for a couple of agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the woodwork with a header from a corner.

The contest was as good as over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest several players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring with his first touch, only to see his shot blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche also missed a sitter of a chance, indicating there is still room for improvement in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, capping an otherwise perfect night for the traveling side.
